Hussein Bilal, nurse

We met in 2016 in Falun. Back then he was fairly new to Sweden after having left Syria. Hussein was studying Swedish and at the same time working in home care for Falun municipality.

One evening at work he drove into the ditch after swerving for a moose. The physical injuries weren't too serious; the worst was a cut on one hand. I asked whether he'd told his family about the accident. No, Hussein answered, they get so worried. Then I wondered where his family lives. Aleppo, the war-torn city in northern Syria…

Now he has worked as a nurse for a year after completing his training. Such an asset to us.
