They just lie there, as if some giant had a bit of fun tossing them around. It\u2019s a thought that sparks the imagination \u2014 far more playful than the more accepted explanation that the ice sheet once dragged these stones along as it melted and retreated. It\u2019s almost impossible to grasp, but Swedish stones, frozen into the ice during one of the glacial periods, have actually been found as far south as northern Germany<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-style-default\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/johnny-gustavsson.se\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/230408_Sten_Vangso_013A64371-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"No Name, No Map \u2014 Just Stone\" class=\"wp-image-642\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">230408 V\u00e5ngs\u00f6 Eskilstuna<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-white-color has-text-color\">This particular erratic sits quietly on farmland in V\u00e5ngs\u00f6, just outside Eskilstuna. As far as I know, it has no name and isn\u2019t any sort of tourist attraction. It just lies there in the field \u2014 like a quiet protest against our human urge to name, label, and explain everything. And maybe that\u2019s what makes it beautiful: the fact that it\u2019s simply allowed to be a stone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-style-default\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/johnny-gustavsson.se\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/200722_sten_JOGU1726_a-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"The Stone That Travelled\" class=\"wp-image-641\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">200722 Katrineholm<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-white-color has-text-color\"><a href=\"https:\/\/visitbotsmark.wordpress.com\/\" title=\"\">Botsmark\u2019s Erratic<\/a>, on the other hand, is the largest in Sweden and appears on V\u00e4sterbotten\u2019s nature map. It stands 15 meters tall and weighs around 35,000 tons \u2014 now that makes an impression.<br>But none of that applies to this humble boulder, resting peacefully just outside Katrineholm. Still, you can\u2019t help but wonder: where has it been?
