Drag Race Sweden 2023

Drag Race Sweden 2023

Sorry, I'm not in it 🙁

I just happened to have the TV on that Saturday evening when the competition Drag Race Sweden got going. And I'm glad I did. Such incredibly colourful, fascinating people. Wonderful stories, some serious and others told with a twinkle in the eye.

Uppsala 2019-09-21

The show highlights and celebrates drag culture. Anyone who doesn't know much has a lot to gain here. To put it mildly, I get a crazy urge to pick up the camera.

I've met one of the contestants in connection with an exhibition that Beyond Nudity and I held at Uppsala Konsert och Kongress during Uppsala Pride 2019. Admira was the host of the party afterwards.

Admira Thunderpussy did a show at Södra Latin ten years ago and has since become an established drag queen in Sweden. Admira is, and has been, nominated as Drag of the Year at the QX gala seven years in a row.

That said..

at almost the same time, back in 2014, I made my own brief foray into the culture together with several colleagues.

Honestly, I don't quite remember how we arrived at that decision, but it was a serious show of support for the LGBTQ movement. The escapade was spread by well-meaning colleagues who for various reasons felt it deserved attention. TV4 Nyhetsmorgon were eternally grateful and got to practise everything about source protection — that is, that as a journalist you have to protect your source.

Strangely enough, I received no further offers after this fabulous performance? Although there were a couple of "sisters" who promised to break off their acquaintance with me forever if their getups were ever shown again.
