The beginning of the journey with Mathias Risberg

It started in March 2017 with a slightly bewildering phone call. A man, Mathias, called the editorial office and explained that he and two friends were going to hitchhike from Stockholm to Thailand. What's more, they were already in Södertälje…. Wouldn't you like to do a feature?

You can imagine for yourselves… I mean, how would that even work? So we arranged to meet at the travel center in Linköping. And out came the gang. A feature it became, and a new friendship took root.

Mathias is a Jesus hippie, a nomad, a stripper and just about everything else that's the opposite of me. There's something appealing in that. He genuinely loathes the taboos that constrain people, not least within the sensual realm. Fixed routines are simply not his thing.

For me, every day with Mathias is a challenge. I'm perhaps not too fond of overly fixed routines either, but at heart I'm basically an ordinary person by current norms, with a job, a home and shared custody of the dachshund Kicki. My social ecosystem has been enriched.
